Goal
To expand joint training and educational opportunities for police, fire, emergency medical, public safety professionals, volunteers and businesses in northeast Indiana by building a state-of-the-art public safety training academy. To enhance interagency training and cooperation required for successful emergency disaster response.
Training
The Public Safety Academy of NE Indiana will include the State certified Fort Wayne Fire and Police Training Academies. It will also house emergency medical training, homeland security and anti-terrorism training. Citizens and businesses leaders will be trained for community preparedness. Special youth learning programs will encourage participation in the Safe City initiative. The Academy will be available to serve as a satellite location for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Division of Preparedness & Training, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, the Indiana State Fire Academy, the Department of Health and other state or federal agencies.
Community Partnerships
A partnership with Ivy Tech State College, the Regional Anthis Career Center, the Indiana National Guard, Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, Indiana Tech, and Trine Universities will allow the Academy to offer public safety related degree programs. These partnerships will help develop an educational infrastructure to meet challenges facing public safety and government officials. Additionally, the Academy will partner with the Indiana 21st Century Scholar to excite youth about lifetime career opportunities in Public Safety.
Service Area
The Public Safety Academy in conjunction with the Public Safety Foundation will work to identify regional needs, outside of the Fort Wayne/Allen County training curriculum. Through this process, there will be an emphasis on the training needs of neighboring jurisdictions in northeast Indiana. Integrating public safety training will benefit all Northeast Indiana public safety professionals.
