On September 11, 2010, the Public Safety Academy held its inaugural Pubic Safety Day. The event commemorated victims of 9/11, spotlighted regional first responders, and showcased community safety information, education, & training.
The event began with a Proclamation from Mayor Henry proclaiming September 2010 as Preparedness Month in Fort Wayne, and then was followed by a memorial ceremony featuring Honor Guard members from FWFD, FWPD, and Indiana State Police. Other activities included an American Red Cross Fallen Officer Blood Drive, Don't Miss a Beat hands-only CPR training, and various public safety related displays, demonstrations, and information booths.
On Tuesday, August 17, Indiana Pacers radio announcer Mark Boyle started a five week, 500 mile walk across Indiana on Tuesday to raise money and awareness for Indiana’s Children’s Wish Fund. The Children’s Wish Fund (www.indianachildrenswishfund.org) is an organization that relies on donations to grant wishes for terminally ill children.
Mark's journey started at the Public Safety Academy and ended in Indianapolis on September 21, 2010. During the walk Boyle blogged about his journey and posted pictures everyday.
On Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 8 a.m. to Noon, the Academy hosted the City's Business Services Showcase. The event was sponsored by the Greater Fort Wayne Business Chamber and was opened to the public at no charge. Mayor Henry opened the event by welcoming guests and various sessions followed with helpful business topics for the attendees, such as
