Instructor Development Course

This 40-hour course prepares officers to develop and conduct quality training programs. Curriculum includes instruction in:

• Assessment of department training needs
• Training aids
• Conducting research
• Developing lesson plans
• Determining course objectives
• Role of the instructor
• Instructional techniques
• Experiential learning cycle
• Preparation of examinations
• Adult learning
• Methods of evaluation, question techniques
• Introduction to power-point
• Theories of learning

The learning experience will be enhanced through videotaping and peer group assessment. Applications will be accepted only for individuals who meet the following criteria:

• Basic course graduate
• Three years of law enforcement experience

It is required that the final 20 minute class presentation be prepared by a word processor or typewriter. Computers are available at the Training Center for participant use.
