POLICE TRAINING STAFF:

matthew_enyeartLieutenant Matthew Enyeart
Director of Training

Lt. Enyeart has been a member of the Fort Wayne Police Department since 1989. During his tenure he spent 8 years on the FWPD Emergency Services Team, served 8 years as a Patrol Sergeant, and currently holds the rank of lieutenant. Lt. Enyeart is a 2007 graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class 229. His certifications include Basic and Reserve Academy Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and Generalist Instructor. 

berningSgt. Berning has been with the Fort Wayne Police Department for 14 years. He has been an Emergency Services Team member since 1997. Sgt. Berning holds a BS in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Ball State University where he graduated with honors. Sgt. Berning joined the Training Center staff in January 2008 and is Instructor Certified in the following areas: Generalist, Academy Instructor, M26 Advanced Taser and Taser X 26. 

 

sutphin

Officer Sutphin has been with the department since 1997. He has been an EMT since 1990 and was a police reserve in New Haven, as well as a dispatcher. Officer Sutphin joined the Training Center in August 2005, where he is the department's Quartermaster.  He instructs academy classes in First Responder and CPR/AED.  In addition, he is also a Certified Instructor and is the coordinator for EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course).

 

barrientesOfficer Barrientes joined the department in 1999, after spending 8 years with the DeKalb County Police. Juan has been a member of FWPD Emergency Services Team since 2000. Having obtained Instructor Certification in 1994 and becoming a Certified Police Defensive Tactics Instructor in 1993, Officer Barrientes has a broad range of expertise. He has instructed at Miami Dade Police Department, Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, SWAT Team Instructor, Women’s Self-Defense courses, and trained the 122nd Infantry (Airborne) prior to deployment to Afghanistan. He holds Black Belts in Shintoyoshin Jiu-Jitsu and Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate and is the primary Defensive Tactics Instructor for the SWAT team. Officer Barrientes joined the Training Center's staff in April 2007.
